The onboarding journey
Our onboarding journey is not a new thing, we’ve been following it for years, but what we’ve not done until now is communicate and share it clearly with our clients. As so much of what we do is done behind the scenes it may feel that nothing much happens after the contract is signed but in fact, our first 6 months working with a new client is often when we invest the most time in building a finance function that is fit for their business.
We want each of our clients to have a great onboarding experience with us and we’ve learned that this means we must be transparent about what the steps of the journey are, set out a clear timeline for achieving each step, and then consistently following these steps with each and every client.
So now we’ve mapped out our onboarding journey and included it in a digital brochure that we share with new clients. If you are interested in learning more, get in touch and we’ll share a copy with you.
Our 6-step onboarding process:
Our 6 step process guides us through the first 6 months of our journey together.
1. Let’s get started
During the first month, you’ll be introduced to the team who will provide you with support and insight day-to-day.
Working together we’ll gather all the necessary data to get you up and running with us (tax codes, payroll information, last year’s accounts and so on).
We’ll run anti-money laundering checks and set up a direct debit. We’ll give you access to all the systems you need: Xero, Receiptbank, Sharefile along with basic training as needed.
2. Health Check
With all systems now in place, we’ll now take a look at the health of your business. This includes a balance sheet and high-level process review. Together we’ll take your ambitions for growth and create a roadmap for you to get there.
You’ll also be invited to join the conversation in our community. Running a business can at times be a lonely and challenging place and to meet others who are on the same journey is invaluable. We’ll introduce you to like-minded agency owners to facilitate collaboration and engage in problem-solving with your peers.
3. Operation Optimisation
By this point, you’ll be accustomed to using your systems, and we’ll ensure that Xero and Receiptbank functionality are optimised for your business, making any incremental improvements to ensure no marginal gains are overlooked.
If you need any additional support or advanced training we’ll support you through this. Our numbers and data come with real-life human support.
4. Future Tech
Now is the time to look closer at your business and to up-level your systems.
As tech-focused accountants, we’re here to introduce you to the latest useful apps and tech to streamline your business operations and give you the insights you need on a live basis to make the best decisions for your agency.
5. What does success look like?
Now it’s time to assess your journey and look to your strategy. As part of your team, we’ll partner with you to put an action plan in place to help you reach your short and long term goals.
Creating a structure around your goals will help you scale more sustainably with more confidence, profit and speed, whilst ensuring your personal goals are met too.
6. Let’s do lunch
Let’s take a moment to reflect on the last 6 months, over coffee or lunch, and get to know each other better.
To conclude the onboarding process we like to meet face-to-face. It’s a great opportunity to share feedback and endure everything is in place for our continued successful partnership.
