LinkedIn reminded me that yesterday was the 6 year anniversary since I founded de Jong Phillips with my father. It got me thinking about our journey from then to now which I’ve not really shared on here before.
Tony, my father, had run his own accountancy practice since the early 90s specialising in small owner-run businesses, while I started my own practice in 2012 after being made redundant when pregnant from a career in decision support and corporate accounting.
Having already grown my own portfolio of clients, I knew I didn’t just want to offer the basic accounting services most small businesses expected. After 12 years of seeing behind the scenes of many successful large businesses while working for RBS and PWC, I knew how my financial insight and expertise as an accountant could be used to entirely transform a business’s trajectory, and I wanted to offer this level of support to small business clients too.
Next-Level Accountancy Support
Until recently this kind of next-level accountancy support would have been prohibitively expensive for small businesses; but as habitual early adopters of new tech (in this instance, cloud technology like Xero) we were able to quickly and affordably bring the benefits of big business strategy to all our clients – no matter their size.
The Agency Accountant
My dad’s now retired from de Jong Phillips and I, with the support of my team which has now grown to 7 people and is still growing, have been able to step away from the day-to-day running of the business to focus on strategy and growth.

So what’s next for de Jong Phillips?
We want to be the go-to accountancy for ambitious UK agencies ready to transform and scale their businesses.
We’ve moved into new offices in Epsom with space to grow and as part of that, we’re looking to hire a senior accountant, an apprentice and a client manager to support some recent client wins and more growth we’re expecting over the coming 12 months.
